EISENSTAEDT, Eva

Twice Survived. From Auschwitz to the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo. The Story of the Sara Rus

Sara Rus hails from Poland. She was 12 years old when the Nazis brought her and her family into the Ghetto Lodz. In 1944 she was transported to Auschwitz-Birkenau. She and her mother were freed from the concentration camp Mauthausen on the 5th of May. After many wrong tracks, for example a year in Berlin, she came to Argentina with her husband in 1948 hoping for a better life. But this desire was shattered by the Argentine military dictatorship and its terror. Her son Daniel, a highly gifted physician, »disappeared« in 1977 from the door of his workplace. He was 26 years old.

Eva Eisenstaedt wrote the life story of a woman who has not only survived the Shoa, but also the murder of her son. A touching story of an engaged fighter against the oblivion and a totalitarian regime.

»Sara is singular, because her story is singular. Not an arbitrarily individual story. This is the saga of the suffering of Jews in a female form. ... « Rabbi Daniel Goldman
